Airport Gran Canaria
The airport of Gran Canaria(LPA), is also known as Gando Airport. It´s located on the east coast of the island near Telde. It is the gateway for millions of tourists that annually visit Gran Canaria. The airport is 25 kilometers from one of the major tourist centers of the Canary Islands, Playa del Ingles, and at 18 kilometers from the capital Las Palmas. If you travel to the South or South West you need to take the motorway GC-1 which follows the coastline all the way from Las Palmas in the North to Mogan in the West.
What is the airport of Gran Canaria?
Gando Airport or also called Las Palmas airport is the only public airport in gran Canaria . IATA code of this airport is LPA. In our menu you will find the arrival and departure times.
The Airport of Gran Canaria was always rather small, but has recently been expanded. There are some nice facilities such as shops and restaurants. If you travel back from Gran Canaria to the UK there are some taxfree shops for perfume and sigarettes and some small shops for clothes, electronics and food. On the first floor there is a bar with an outside balcony where you can see the planes come and go and where you can smoke a cigarette or, better, just enjoy the good weather.
If you travel to or from Gran Canaria make sure to wear some layers. You can tie a sweater around your waist if you are going home again. In the west of the Island it can be very windy, which could make the feel a little colder than in the south. Because of the good weather conditions there are rarely any problems or delay in landing or take off in Gran Canaria.
Every year improvements are made to adjust the infrastructure of the airport to the ever-increasing numbers of tourists who flock here. Gran Canaria Airport is a modern airport and has all the facilities to deliver a good service and to contribute to a safe flight.
Airport in numbers
In 2012 there were almost 10 million passengers welcomed. There were approximately 100,000 flights and some 20,000 tonnes of freight transported.
From the airport you can take the bus to Las Palmas or - if you stay in the south - to Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, Meloneras, Puerto Rico, Amadores, Playa del Cura, Puerto de Mogan etc. A taxi to the south or west costs between 45 and 60 euros.
Be aware that there are several buses going every hour, but not 24 hours a day.

Route to the South. If you have rented a car at the airport and go to your stay located in the south of the island, follow the signs: "SUR" (south) or the signs Maspalomas. There is only one motorway going from north to south which is the GC-1.
On Gran Canaria there is only one legal taxi service company so there are no variations in prices on a taxi. Of course there are always locals who drive for a better price, but the police is very keen to counter this.
