Puerto de Mogan, the most westerly holiday resort on the south coast, lies in a valley between the mountainous landscape, on the Atlantic Ocean.
Puerto de Mogan and Mogan
Puerto de Mogan is part of the town Mogan which consists of 2 parts, (Pueblo de) Mogan and Puerto de Mogan. Mogan is also the name of the municipality which also include Taurito, Playa del Cura, Tauro, Amadores, Puerto Rico, and Arguineguin. The touristic part of Gran Canaria in the south is divided over 2 municipalities; Municipio de Mogan and Municipio San bartolomé de Tirajana (Which include the towns Maspalomas/Playa del Ingles).
In 2013 the motorway to Mogan finished after years of work. 3 tunnels through the mountains had to be made to reach Mogan directly from the motorway instead of going along the coastal road. This better connection between Puerto de Mogan and the rest of the area makes Mogan a much more popular holiday destination these days. From the motorway you go right for Mogan and left for Puerto the Mogan.
Puerto de Mogan: Picturesque fishing village
Puerto the Mogan is mostly known for it´s picturesque white houses with colored borders. The many colorful bougainvilleas hanging over the houses and bridges are giving the finishing touch. A feast for the eyes and well worth the effort to walk through. Puerto de Mogan is a mix of a fishing village, marina and chic holiday resort. With a small, but excellent and well-protected beach, this town might be perfect for your holiday, especially if you have children. The village (Pueblo de )Mogán is approximately seven kilometers inland. Mogan itself has not many tourist attractions.
Venice of the Canary Islands
Puerto de Mogan is often called "Little Venice" or "Venice of the Canaries", because of the lovely canals and little bridges. If you walk over the little bridges and you see the fish swim in the cristal clear water and everything around you is in bloom - flowers, lemon trees and even coconut trees - you will know why this "Venice of the Canaries" belongs to the uniquest places of the world.
The marina of Puerto de Mogan
Attractions in the marina are a yellow submarine (Submarine Adventure) that gives you a peek at the Canaries underwater world, or you could take the Glass Bottom Ferry.. You will also find small replicas of historical sailing ships that take you to the beaches of Puerto Rico and Maspalomas. Boats for deep sea fishing offer you the opportunity to the catch of your life.
