Puerto Rico is a lively a coastal town on the island of Gran Canaria that is becoming more and more popular. It lies on the south coast of the island and has a year-round good climate, which attracts many tourists from Europe.
White Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is build up from down the marina up to the hills. It consists of many white apartment blocks against the steep cliffs. There are two small beaches, near the marina. But are you a real beach lover, go to Playa Amadores next to Puerto Rico. There is a special walkway built between Puerto Rico and the popular Amadores Beach.
Puerto Rico has three large commercial malls lined with shops, bars and restaurants and is flanked by a marina full of luxury yachts where it is possible to enjoy any kind of water sport you can think of. Puerto Rico has something for everyone, sunny spots for peace seekers, or a lively place for a holiday with the whole family.
Shopping Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has three major shopping and entertainment venues. The largest is the shopping center Centro Comercial Puerto Rico Mogan (Centro Civico), where visitors can buy literally everything. You will find boutiques, restaurants, dozens of duty-free shops for sales of electrical goods, photographic equipment and perfumes at low prices. Although it must be said that in Puerto Rico authentic boutiques disappear and the Chinese shops are popping out of the ground.
The other two centers are Agua La Perra and Europe Shopping Center. Both have good selections of souvenirs and swimwear, and a supermarket. Opening times for shops and supermarkets in the centers are from 9:30 am to 21:00 pm.
Markets Puerto Rico
Every 14 days there is a local "farmers" market on Sunday in Puerto Rico. You can find this market on Avenida Tomás Roca Bosch, the main street. If you´d go from the marina towards the mall Centro Comercial you will find the market in a small park on the left. In this market you can get local products including cheeses, breads, plants, fruits and vegetables and even organic products can be found there.
The largest markets in the south are on Tuesday morning in Arguineguin and Friday morning in Puerto de Mogan.
Restaurants Puerto Rico
Like most coastal towns in the south of Gran Canaria, Puerto Rico also has many restaurants and bars. The restaurants provide a wide range of tastes, from a hamburger to "Haute Cuisine". Also there are a lot of buffet restaurants where you can eat for 7 or 8 euros. Most of the restaurants are in the malls. For those wishing to dine overlooking the beach you will find several good restaurants on the west side of the bay.
Nightlife in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is one of the places in Gran Canaria where visitors can party all night. Happy hour often starts at 4 pm while the many bars, pubs and clubs do not close for about 4:30 o'clock in the morning. Most nightspots are in the malls. Activities Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is the ideal resort for an active holiday and offers numerous activities including a wide range of water sports which you can find at the marinas at each end of the bay, such as windsurfing, jet skiing, diving, snorkling. Besides water sports, visitors can enjoy the tennis court, this is lightened at night. Rackets and balls can be hired. There are squash courts in Europe shopping center and there is a fitness center in Centro Commercial (back side). For the adrenaline seekers paragliding, parachuting and scuba diving is a popular activity.
Youngsters can especially enjoy the gaming rooms in the three malls, and miniature golf are also popular. And for the youngest there is the Angry Birds Activity Park.
