One of the easiest ways to travel over the island is by taxi. You will be surprised how cheap it is!
Transportation by taxi is a lot cheaper than in the United Kingdom. It is also widely used and is therefore highly recommended for distances that are too long to walk. You'll find taxis on almost every street corner. Raise your hand in order to keep one or go to the nearest taxi stand.
Call a taxi
All taxi services are oganized centrally. If you call the taxi company for the first time you only need to give them the adres or the name of the complex you are staying. If you would call again another day the computer will recognize your number and the employee will ask you if you are ordering a taxi for the same adress. After confirming the adress the line will be put on hold and a taxi will be matched. If you wait you will get the number of the taxi that is reserved for you. If the taxi does not show up you will be asked what the taxi number was. In general in the touristic parts of Gran Canaria a taxi will arrive within 3 to 5 minutes.
In the touristic places like Playa del Inglès, Puerto Rico, Mogan and at most beaches and attractions there are a few taxi stands. So it's never a far walk to get a taxi. If there is no stand you can also wave to hold a taxi. If the stand is not far they will point you to the nearest stand and do not pick you up. There you need to take the taxi that is first in line. You have to pay cash in a taxi.
There are special taxis for disabled people, for people with lots of luggage, for five passengers, for six passengers and where you can pay by credit card. These can be requested by telephone. Of course there is also an option to reserve your transfer to and from the airport.
You can find more taxi information at www.socomtaxi.com or call: +34928154777, the reservation number. Do you need a taxi for disabled, then you can indicate this by saying: Taxi para minusválido (no extra cost) even for child seat use, the pets or payment by credit card.
